The AEJMC’s mid-winter conference, “Covering Your Community,” was held March 3-4, 2017 at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. This was the first time the AEJMC Public Relations Division has participated in this regional conference.
PRD had 12 papers accepted for presentation, a 67 percent acceptance rate, and had two panels it sponsored–one focused on new paths of theoretical development in public relations and one on the subject of overcoming/preventing professional burnout for graduate students and assistant professors. The 12 papers were also presented on a panel.
“We began investigating the possibility last year after reading feedback from members on a survey. Some indicated their budgets would only allow for smaller, regional conferences, and they wished we had a presence there. We have been very pleased with the response – to have 18 submissions of abstracts was amazing, as well as programming two proposed panels,” noted Division Vice Head and Programming Chair Dr. Richard D. Waters, associate professor, School of Management at the University of San Francisco.
