The Participatory Journalism Interest Group of AEJMC has an e-mail discussion list called PARTICIPATORY-JOURNALISM@lists.vcu.edu. Its purpose is to share ideas and news relating to participatory journalism, civic journalism, citizen journalism and our group. We welcome your participation in the continuing conversation.

To subscribe to the list, send an e-mail to:

listserv@lists.vcu.edu

In the body of the message, type:

SUBSCRIBE PARTICIPATORY-JOURNALISM “Your name”
END

You will immediately receive an e-mail inviting you to join the list. You will be added to the list when you reply to this e-mail (or click on a Web link in the e-mail) to confirm your e-mail address.

To post a message to the list, send it to:

When you do that, your message will go to all subscribers — so be sure to draft your posting carefully.

The mailing list is hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University. The university uses a program called LISTSERV, developed by L-Soft international Inc. See the program’s user manual for more details. It explains, for example, how to suspend mail delivery when you go on vacation.

Other facts about PARTICIPATORY-JOURNALISM@lists.vcu.edu:

It is a public list. This means anybody can subscribe; you don’t have to be a member of the Participatory Journalism Interest Group or of AEJMC.

It is a closed list. This means that only subscribers can post messages to the list.

The list is unmoderated. No one screens your postings.

Listserv messages have a “reply to list” default. If you reply to a posting, it will go to subscribers. If you want to reply only to the person who sent the posting, remember to change the “To:” line in your message.

The “owner” of PARTICIPATORY-JOURNALISM@lists.vcu.edu is Jeff South, an associate professor in the VCU School of Mass Communications and the Webmaster for the Participatory Journalism Interest Group.
