The Mass Communication and Society Division seeks nominations for the Division’s newly-established Professional Award. This $250 award seeks to recognize professionals for upholding the values of professional freedom and responsibility, diversity and public service. It is open to any individual who has spent a significant portion of her/his career in mass communication industries (broadcast, print, photojournalism, advertising, public relations, social media, etc.).
Individuals must show initiatives that were undertaken in order to uphold these values in coverage or for work within the areas of education, journalism, advertising, public relations, or a related field. Other worthwhile endeavors entail working within the community to promote social responsibility outside of normal work duties.
An individual may be nominated for a significant individual activity related to professional freedom and responsibility, diversity, and public service, or for the individual’s work during the course of her/his career
All nominations, including self-nominations must include:
- An application letter that outlines the applicant’s accomplishments and forms the basis for the nomination (Limit two pages)
- Two letters of nomination from individuals who can speak to the values being upheld.
- The nominee’s resume.
These items should be sent as one PDF. Please include the applicant’s name in the title of the single PDF file.

The winner is selected by the members of the PF&R committee and the Vice Head-Elect of the MCS Division. For 2016, the winner will be recognized at the Business Meeting and Awards Luncheon at the national conference in Minneapolis.
