Off-site Tour and Dinner

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We would like to extend an invitation to each of you to consider two International Communication Division off-site activities during the AEJMC conference in San Francisco.

On August 7, there will be a tour of AJ+. We will meet in the conference hotel lobby and leave at 11 a.m. for the walk to the AJ+ office, 118 King Street. The one-hour tour begins at 11:30 a.m. There are only 15 slots because of space limitations in the building. If you would like to attend, please sign up with Vice Head Jeannine Relly at <jrelly@email.arizona.edu>.

AJ+ describes the organization this way: “AJ+ is the digital-only video news network and community from the Al Jazeera innovation department. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, AJ+’s endeavor is to reimagine the news for a mobile-centric generation by meeting its audience in every digital space, and creating custom content for online social communities including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and the AJ+ mobile app. AJ+ highlights human struggles and achievements, empowers impassioned voices, and challenges the status quo in a brazen way that delivers a refreshing perspective on global current events.”

On August 8, we will hold our off-site dinner at Fang Restaurant http://www.fangrestaurant.com/location.html, a Chinese establishment at 660 Howard Street. We’ll meet in the conference hotel lobby at 6:40 p.m. and walk to the restaurant. The reservation is for 7 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. and as always is self-pay. We have secured space for 20 people and could expand that if needed. Please send an RSVP to Jeannine Relly jrelly@email.arizona.edu if you plan to join us.

We hope to see you in San Francisco!

With all best wishes,

Jeannine Relly, ICD Vice Head

Emily Metzgar, ICD Head

ICD Program for the 2014 Annual Conference

The International Communication Division has developed a great program for the AEJMC annual conference in Montreal. In addition to our refereed sessions and invited panels, we will also be hosting a walking tour of Old Montreal (5:15 to 6:45 p.m. on Friday) as well as a divisional dinner (8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday). Please RSVP to Emily Metzgar (emetzgar@indiana.edu) if you would like to attend either event. Additionally, we will be having our business meeting on Thursday, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A copy of ICD’s program is available here as a PDF document. We look forward to seeing you all in just a few weeks!

ICD Call for Papers and Reviewers

The All Academic site is now open for conference paper submissions for the AEJMC 2014 Montreal, Canada, Conference.

Please consider submitting a paper to the AEJMC’s International Communication Division for presentation in August 2013. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) on Tuesday, April 1.

A copy of the AEJMC Uniform Paper Call may be found here, and a copy of the ICD paper competitions may be found here. All papers must be submitted through the All Academic management system.

The International Communication Division also needs reviewers. The ICD is one of AEJMC’s largest and every year we receive many papers for the annual conference. We need scholars to help us review all submissions, for both the student competition and the general competition. Please consider signing on to review at the following link: http://tinyurl.com/lmlbt5b. If you know other AEJMC members who are not members of the division yet would make good reviewers, please forward them the link and invite them to complete the form. (Please note: Though we welcome – and strongly encourage – graduate student submissions, graduate students do not participate in the review process. We encourage graduate students to participate in the division in other ways.)

We hope to be able to count on your help this year.
